Howell Creative Group Founder, President and Creative Director

Kathy Howell began her career as an agency art director, continuing on to work in both the public relations and marketing communications fields including serving as Director of Public Relations for Associated Inns and Restaurants of America. She opened Howell Creative Group in 1982 and her commitment to the creation and execution of successful marketing, branding and design projects for the firm’s clients is the foundation that has led to a successful three-decades-old company. She encourages her team to apply creative strategies to achieve those goals saying, “We always strive to ensure that our clients get more than their money’s worth. Your success is our main focus.”

Most memorable project at work has been what? Why?

A September 11, 2001 ad campaign for BASF’s Basofil flame resistant fiber (the material used in firemen’s suits to protect them from flames). In record time, we pitched and created an ad that paid homage to the firefighters and first responders who died trying to save victims at the World Trade Centers and Pentagon. Our client ended up with one of the only real-time tribute ads immediately after the tragedy. It was hugely impactful for the readers of the publication in which it appeared and all of us during that trying time for our country.

What does “creative” mean to you?

Creativity is the act of taking a risk to think differently and connect the dots in a way other people haven’t done. I visualize creativity as taking lots of unrelated “stuff” and tossing it into a giant funnel (our brains). Then through hard work and a bit of magic, connections are made and the end result is something new, clean and relevant.
