14 Jan Howell Creative Group Put Skills to Work for USS George H.W. Bush Commissioning Events
Williamsburg, VA. The opportunity to support the commissioning of a nuclear aircraft carrier doesn’t come around very often. Howell Creative Group was privileged to help the Navy League of Hampton Roads by designing invitations for the USS George H. W. Bush “Ship’s Sponsor Luncheon” at the Half Moone Cruise Terminal and for the “Commissioning Gala” held at Naval Station Norfolk on January 9, 2009.
“We were honored to have played our part as this great event unfolded, and to have been able to work with the Navy League, including Executive Director Maryellen Baldwin, who did a fabulous job of orchestrating the commissioning festivities,” said Howell Creative Group Account Manager Brittany Mangold.
The USS George H.W. Bush is the tenth and last of our country’s Nimitz-class supercarriers, the largest capital ships in the world. The commissioning, held on Saturday, January 10, 2009, was attended by some 20,000 people who gathered to see the ship “come alive” and to witness the commissioning ceremony that included President George W. Bush, former President George H. W. Bush, Governor Tim Kaine, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Gary Roughead and many other dignitaries.
